Usage Notes or Etymology

The word sintesis is borrowed from Dutch synthese, itself derived from Latin synthesis, and ultimately from Greek sýnthesis, a compound of syn (together) and títhēmi (to place). Literally, it means “a placing together”. In Western philosophical tradition, the term was popularized by Hegel in his dialectic of thesis-antithesis-synthesis, describing the resolution of contradictions into a new understanding. In Indonesia, the word entered through academic and scientific channels during the Dutch colonial era, and is now widely used in chemistry, philosophy, linguistics, and academic writing.
