Usage Notes or Etymology

The term dekonstruksi is borrowed from English deconstruction, popularized by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in the 1960s through his work De la Grammatologie (1967). Derrida developed this method as a critique of “logocentrism” in Western philosophical tradition. In Indonesian, the word is formed from the prefix de- (negation/reversal) and konstruksi (structural construction), literally meaning to dismantle what has been built. In everyday usage, it is often loosely applied to mean “critically analyzing something from within its own structure”.
