Usage Notes or Etymology

This word is the old spelling of juga written using the Van Ophuijsen orthography system. The use of the grapheme dj for the /j/ sound and oe for the /u/ sound is a characteristic of Dutch East Indies colonial orthography. In the Soewandi Spelling commissioned in 1947, the spelling changed to djuga as the grapheme oe was replaced by u. Following the implementation of the Enhanced Spelling System in 1972, the word was finally standardized as juga as the grapheme dj was replaced by j.

Real-world Usage

I also want to go to Batavia tomorrow.
