The modern and standard equivalent of 'membikin'. Widely used in contemporary formal and informal Indonesian, replacing the older 'membikin' which carries an archaic register.
menciptakan
Synonymous with 'membikin' in the context of producing something, but 'menciptakan' carries a more elevated and formal nuance, often used for artistic works, innovations, or original creations.
menghasilkan
Partially synonymous with 'membikin' in the sense of producing or generating something, but 'menghasilkan' places greater emphasis on the output or end product, and tends to be used in formal and technical contexts.
The word “membikin” originates from the root word bikin, meaning 'to make' or 'to create'. This word was commonly used during the “tempo doeloe” era, especially during the “Van Ophuijsen Spelling” period (pre-1947). The prefix me- attached to bikin forms an active verb. In the Soewandi Spelling (1947-1972) and the Enhanced Spelling System (EYD), its spelling and meaning remained the same, but it was formally more often replaced by “membuat”. This word is still frequently encountered in informal conversations today.
