Usage Notes or Etymology

The word “pindho” is a distributive numeral or frequency adverb in the ngoko level of Javanese. Etymologically, it originates from Old Javanese pindo, derived from the prefix pi and the root rwa meaning “two”. Within Javanese social structures, the use of “pindho” is restricted to conversations between peers or from elders to subordinates. In more formal contexts or when showing respect to the interlocutor, speakers will switch to the krama variant.
