The word manten is a shortened form or phonological variation of the word penganten in Javanese and Indonesian. This term is frequently used within Javanese cultural contexts to refer to a couple sitting on the wedding dais. In Javanese tradition, the status of manten is regarded as a king and queen for a day. Etymologically, it roots back to Old Javanese referring to the union of two individuals. It is widely used in daily conversation and in naming traditional rituals such as “temu manten”.
