Ular kobra

Etymology

Borrowed from the Portuguese 'cobra', which originates from the Latin 'colubra' (female snake). The word entered the Indonesian archipelago through maritime trade contacts in the 16th century, replacing or accompanying the local term 'ular sendok' to refer to the Naja genus that can flatten its neck.
