Terbagei

Etymology and history: derived from the prefix ter- plus the root bagi (meaning to divide). The form “terbagei” is a phonetic/colloquial orthographic variant that appeared in written materials of the tempoe doeloe period to reflect spoken pronunciation; It is recorded in newspapers, correspondence, and popular texts of that era. In Van Ophuijsen orthography the form was written as “terbagei”. Under the Soewandi orthographic reform the form became terbagi, and use of “terbagei” declined, remaining primarily in informal registers, theatrical scripts, and nostalgic texts. Functionally, “terbagei” signaled familiarity or oral imitation rather than standard usage.
